Cinnamon Sugar Donuts – From the Pen of Greenspire School Student, Samuel Strange

This blog was written by Samuel, a student at The Greenspire School, as part of a class project called Food for Good. In this project, 11th and 12th grade students explore how food—and how we write about it—plays an incredibly important role in both our personal lives and our communities. Guided by Language Arts teacher Philip Girard, students draw inspiration from writers like Julia Child and Anthony Bourdain to shape their own food stories. Samuel’s piece taps into the warm nostalgia of fall, sharing his love for cinnamon sugar donuts through vivid memories and seasonal traditions.

Cinnamon Sugar Donuts

My favorite season is fall. Fall comes with so many things that are festive to the season: foods, colors, and pumpkin-flavored everything, red leaves, pumpkin lattes, etc. Another food that’s seen more frequently in the autumn is donuts.

When I think of fall donuts, however, I think of so much more than just cinnamon sugar. There are apple flavors, pumpkin flavors.

Cinnamon sugar donuts are popular for a reason. They are just irresistible. The smell that they give off is like an overload of cinnamon that makes you hungry no matter what. And the taste is even better, like a blast of cinnamon and sugar that fills your mouth with every bite.

Recently I went to Jacob’s corn maze with my friend and his family. That’s where I had the best cinnamon sugar donut I have ever eaten. The thing that separated this from other donuts was how fresh and warm it was. It was super appealing to my taste buds.

I remember when I was young, being at my grandparents house and they had a box of cinnamon sugar donuts from a local bakery. I ate it and it was delicious, and new. I was a young little ADHD kid and so of course I was running around going crazy and I only wanted more.
