Groceries For Good

Making Change,
One Generous Shopper at a Time

One of Oryana Community Co-op’s core missions is to support the non-profit organizations in Traverse City and across northern Michigan, driving real change. Every month, we feature a local 501(c)(3) non-profit to receive donations from our generous owners and shoppers.

Our round-up donation program provides meaningful support for non-profit organizations, big and small; here’s how it works.

Our Change Round-Up Program

Every day, Oryana shoppers have the option to round up their change to the nearest dollar to support the non-profit of the month. Additionally, Oryana chooses one day per month to donate 2% of all sales at both stores to the non-profit. Together, we’ve raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for organizations like TART, SEEDS, Cherryland Humane Society, and more.

Non-profits are chosen through a two-stage nomination and selection process. Starting in August, the community nominates their favorite Traverse City non-profit. After an initial vetting process, qualifying nominees are entered into an election running from October 1 through October 31.

We’ll announce the list of winners and the following year’s Groceries For Good schedule in December.

How Do Checkout Donations Work?

Round-up programs, also known as point-of-sale fundraising, raise millions of dollars per year for non-profit organizations. Oryana does not technically receive the money, nor do we claim your donations as a tax write-off. Our shoppers are the true donors, and Oryana operates as a pass-through entity.

100% of Groceries For Good donations from our shoppers go straight to the month’s non-profit. We do write off our donation from our 2% day.
