In this class we will discuss Lisa Mason Ziegler’s book Cool Flowers: How to Grow and Enjoy Long-Blooming Hardy Annual Flowers Using Cool Weather Techniques. As a flower farmer, cool season hardy annuals play a significant role in spring crops. They offer some of the most stunning blooms at a time of year when we are hungry for color. This interactive class will cover:
- The definition of a cool season hardy annual
- What varieties do well in our zone (5b)
- When to plant and what does well with direct seeding and what must be transplanted out
- Sourcing quality seeds and varieties
- The timing of fall and winter sowing
- Choosing the right combinations to create a stunning bouquet
