One of the core tenets of Oryana’s Ends Policy and philosophy is to work as closely as possible with other types of cooperatives, especially those that align with our food-focused philosophies. We have always prioritized local suppliers, often working directly with farmers and makers right in here in northern Michigan.  

We also understand the value of flexibility and resilience; to that end, we’re partnering with Co-op Partners Warehouse (CPW), a cooperative distributor working exclusively with certified organic and often fair-trade suppliers.  

What Is CPW? 

It’s a cooperatively owned wholesale distributor that is part of the Twin City Co-op Partners based in St. Paul, Minnesota. The company works with over four hundred customers in seven states, including Oryana Community Co-op and Grain Train in northern Michigan.  

Co-operative Partners Wholesale brings a co-op-first approach to distribution with an emphasis on sustainable, long-term relationships.  

The Produce Connection 

We use CPW to supplement the exceptional offerings that northern Michigan’s prolific farmers produce. Most of CPW’s produce comes from the Upper Midwest, including more than three dozen in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and neighboring states. 

In addition to several national producers, CPW also works with Fair Trade-certified growers worldwide. CPW has allowed Oryana to reliably and consistently source all Fair Trade organic and conventional bananas from farms like Rio y Valle in Peru.  

The Importance of the Co-op Supply Chain 

Having a strong, reliable cooperative supply chain is an important part of our mission to bring quality foods home to northern Michigan. Working with CPW and other co-op suppliers allows us to build a resilient supply chain that insulates our community against shortages and policy changes. CPW makes it possible support Minnesota food cooperatives and manufacturers, farmer-owned food brands throughout the Midwest, and grow the cooperative economy.
