It’s the busy season for Danu Hof, a Mancelona farm and one of two recipients of microloans from Crosshatch and Oryana Community Co-op. For a farm built on being intentional and resourceful, it should be absolutely no surprise that they were ready to move the second their funds were available.
Now, three months later, they’re realizing the benefits of their additional capacity when it matters most.
How Danu Hof Invested…in Turkey
Danu Hof knew exactly where its microloan funds were going; they had their equipment orders ready and hit “send” the second they had the microloan check in hand. They upgraded their poultry processing facility to accommodate turkeys, allowing them to increase overall production capacity and help other local farmers process locally.
Local means sustainable – for the environment, for small businesses, and for the consumers prioritizing local meat products.

Making It Work
Having 100% of the funds already spent is a testament to the team’s preparedness. “Having been in the planning phase of the project for over a year and talking with other processes helped us execute our project promptly and as anticipated,” they noted.
At the moment, normal revenue more than covers repayment costs, allowing the team to focus on their other priorities, including:
- Investing in additional tools and equipment
- Improving and expanding marketing and branding efforts
- Learning more about wholesale strategies, workshares, and other operational opportunities
