Located between Cedar and Traverse City, Second Spring Farm is a sprawling, 80-acre operation with deep northern Michigan roots. Founded in 2008, the farm is a testament to the region’s robust agricultural brilliance.

The View from the Hill 

Most of Second Spring Farm’s acreage rolls out like a vibrant green carpet on the north side of Hoxie Road. The road itself, a shallow hill that spills into Leelanau County, is quiet; you’re more likely to see a tractor or a cyclist than a speeding motorist.  

The field, as well as the farm beyond it, is always busy. Operating year-round, the farm grows USDA organic vegetables, free-range eggs, and pasture-raised pork. Owner Reid Johnston and his team are always on the move, tirelessly cultivating everything from beets and broccoli to rutabaga and winter squash. 

Where to Find Second Spring 

Second Spring offers a CSA and attends farmers’ markets in Traverse City, Northport, Interlochen and Glen Arbor, though the easiest place to find them is Oryana Community Co-op. We rely on Second Spring to provide shoppers with an abundant selection of local produce and to craft some of our culinary options.
