Oryana’s March Groceries for Good recipient is On the Ground. On Thursday, March 20th our co-op community can support On the Ground by shopping at either (or both!) Oryana stores. We’ll donate 2% of sales for the day to the organization. Also, shoppers are encouraged to round-up their order to the nearest dollar in support of On the Ground.
Here’s a statement from the non-profit about their work: “On The Ground partners with coffee farming communities to improve standards of living for the farmers and their families. Poverty alleviation and sustainability will only come from a collaborative, industry-wide effort to support and develop coffee-growing communities. We view our coffee producing colleagues as equals, as friends. Families who farm coffee deserve the same access to fundamental human rights as those who trade, roast, and consume their coffee. We aim to end inequity in the coffee industry and see our friends thrive. We advocate for freedom from the burdens of tainted water, malnutrition, disease, illiteracy, and economic and political instability that our coffee-growing partners endure. Freed from these hurdles, farming communities can produce higher-quality coffee, which supports further development, shapes the market, and strengthens the supply chain.”
