Wine & Cheese Tasting
Join us on Saturday, September 28, 3-5 pm for a wine and cheese tasting at Oryana West! Everyone (over 21) is welcome!
Here’s what we’ll be sampling:
1) Ciccone Dolcetto with Boss Mouse Smoked Cheddar Cheese
The wine: Dolcetto wine exhibits floral, oak and earthy notes, with a rounded mouthfeel, and a dry finish.
About the winery: Ciccone winemaking is a family tradition from soil to glass. From growing vines in the fertile soil just shy of the 45th parallel to aging and bottling, they do it all from a quaint property off beautiful M-22. This is a boutique vineyard & winery located in the American Viticultural Area (AVA) of Leelanau Peninsula on the 45th parallel in Northern Michigan. The vineyard is planted in 13 acres of primarily cool-climate vinifera grapes with a percentage of non cool-climate vinifera and hybrids as well.
The cheese: Boss Moss Smoked Cheddar: Made fresh right here in Kingsley, Michigan. Boss Mouse cheddar isn’t smoked until the day we place our order, it’s that fresh!
2) Ciccone Leelatage with Taleggio
The wine: Ciccone Leelatage wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot and has dark berry, oak and plum notes.
The cheese: Taleggio cheese is imported from Italy. As part of the cheese-making process, Taleggio is washed in the Mediterranean Sea, then set on an oak plank at room temperature or warmer. This process forms the rind on the cheese.
3) Ciccone Riesling with De Vor Aged Gouda
The wine: Ciccone Riesling boasts lemon, orange blossom, melon, and pear notes with a soft mouth feel and is semi-dry.
The cheese: Devor Aged Gouda is made right here in Kalkaska, Michigan at De Vor Dairy Farm and Creamery and is the 2024 winner of the Oryana Cheese Madness contest. Aged on imported wooden boards from Europe, this gouda has a rich, robust, tangy flavor.
4) Ciccone Gewurztraminer with Roquefort
The wine: Ciccone Gewurztraminer, (pronounced guh·vurt·struh·mee·nr) a semi dry wine, exhibits soft floral and melon notes with a lingering citrus finish.
The cheese: Roquefort, the last in the line up of tastings due to its unique and robust flavor. Milk from Lacaune sheep is transformed into cheese and aged in the Combalou caves of Roquefort-sur-Soulzon to create the eponymous classic Roquefort cheese.
All these wines are on sale through the end of the month, ranging from $15.99 to $22.99.
