Oryana Fall Wine Tour: Aurora Cellars & Good Harbor Vineyards
All in the Family: Aurora Cellars and Good Harbor Vineyards
There are a lot of beautiful family connections in Northern Michigan, but one produces particularly flavorful wines. The Simpson Family manages both Good Harbor Vineyards and Aurora Cellars on the Leelanau Peninsula, offering two award-winning tasting lists and uniquely picturesque tasting rooms.
Taylor Simpson, Sales, Marketing, and Distribution Manager for both Aurora Cellars and Good Harbor Vineyards, took a moment out of her busy fall schedule to share with us her seasonal highlights.
What are you drinking this season?
Aurora Cellars Blaufrankisch 2016 and Good Harbor Vineyards 2018 Dry Riesling.
What are you recommending in your tasting room, especially for fall?
At Aurora Cellars that same 2016 Blaufranksich and at Good Harbor Vineyards, I recommend the 2018 Pinot Noir Zweiglet.
What are your favorite views of the Fall colors that visitors should seek out?
Both settings offer stunning fall color views of the peninsula.
Do have a suggested pairing for one of these wines?
We highly recommend a mushroom pizza from 9 Bean Row with the 2018 Pinot Noir Zweigelt from Good Harbor Vineyards. The earthy flavors from the mushrooms with the herbs and olive oil on the crust are a perfect pairing with the bright fruit of the Pinot Noir and the earthy and slightly pepper undertones of the Zweigelt. It is a true delight! (We also recommend an earthy fall soup!)
